Classical World Chess Championship 1993
The classical world chess championship 1993 was played between the defending champion Garry Kasparov and the challenger Nigel Short. The latter knocked out i.a. Boris Gelfand and Anatoly Karpov in the qualification. The winner was to be chosen based on the best of 24 games, at 12 – 12 Kasparov would have retained the world champion title.
